The countdown is on and we have less than two months to register for the annual event of our
scientific community: the Sinergie-Sima 2024 Management Conference, to be held in Parma on
June 13th and 14th.
The common thread of this edition is the connection between centers of knowledge, value
creation, institutions and local culture.
On June 13th, the event will take place at Green Life, the Italian headquarters of Crédit
Agricole, one of Parma's most important economic realities and a leading national and
international banking group. The topic of the conference - Managing Sustainability and Well-
being for Individuals and Society - will be discussed in the morning by keynote speakers from
academia and business. Joining us will be Tammo Bijmolt of the University of Groningen and
President of the European Marketing Academy, Guido Barilla President of the Barilla Group,
Maria Latini President and CEO of Coop Italia, and Irene Rizzoli CEO of Delicius. For those
who are able to attend at 9 a.m. the annual meeting of referees of the Sinergie Italian Journal of
Management is an event not to be missed. This will be followed by a session with the editors of
the journals FamilyBusiness.org, Italian Journal of Marketing, Micro&Macro Marketing, R&D
Management, and Sinergie Italian Journal of Management. A meeting of the conference's
Scientific Committee will also be held at the same time.
The afternoon will be dedicated to our community: before the General Assembly, the debate will
be opened up to include the representatives of the main institutions involved in evaluation of the
Italian university system to discuss the correlated issues. Joining us will be Antonio Felice
Uricchio President of ANVUR, Menico Rizzi Member of the Steering Committee of CoARA,
Paolo Pedone President of CUN, Gianluca Gregori,Representative of CRUI, and Guido Cristini,
Counselor of CUN Area 13 - Economics and Statistics.
We will experience a working environment immersed in 70,000 square metres of parkland,
totally sustainable, in line with the conference theme, and cheered on by the Michelin-starred
cuisine of the Spigaroli brothers. Lunch (light, but not light...) will be a journey through the
great cured meats of Parma and the delicacies of the vegetable garden of the ancient Corte
Pallavicina.
The first day will conclude with a gala dinner at the Villa dei Capolavori in Mamiano di
Traversetolo (PR), the headquarters of the Magnani-Rocca Foundation. The dinner will take
place in the shade of the Himalayan cedar in the 12-hectare romantic park, which was previously
the holiday home of aristocratic families before being inhabited by Luigi Magnani, a passionate
art scholar, music critic, collector and friend of the Bolognese painter Giorgio Morandi.
On June 14th, the meeting will be held at the Department of Economics and Management of the
University of Parma. In the morning and afternoon sessions, the research results of 772 scholars
will be discussed in parallel sessions chaired by SIMA Thematic Groups. A total of 335 papers
(277 short papers and 58 long papers) have been received. All papers are currently undergoing
peer review in order to provide the authors with constructive feedback and suggestions for
enhancing their research. This process also ensure that the conference provides a valuable
opportunity for researchers to receive feedback and suggestions aimed at the continuous
improvement of their research, as well as to identify papers that are worthy of prizes and
mentions. The adoption of a new platform for managing conference proceedings is allowing for
more effective coordination between the Sinergie Editorial Team and the coordinators of the
SIMA Thematic Groups, Special Tracks and the Conference Theme Track.
This year, the conference has become the laboratory of the SIMA-SIM School, wherein young
scholars, engaged in the course on refereeing, are working on the long and short papers
submitted to the conference and will be able to compare their review with that of more
experienced scholars. The Outstanding Young Reviewer will be identified based on the
evaluation of the corresponding author's assessment of the usefulness and quality of the review
received. This process is the same as for the Outstanding Reviewer Award.
There are two new features on the second day. The first is the presentation of the winners of
Make It a Case, SIMA's national competition aimed at students enrolled in management courses
at universities. The second is the session on Innovative Teaching to discuss the results of SIMA's
research on this cutting-edge topic with the main publishers operating in Italy. We will take a
break and immerse ourselves in the local cuisine of the restaurant Il Cortile, a historical reality
of the city. The second day will conclude with one of the most eagerly awaited moments: the
presentation of the awards and the announcement of the theme for the Sinergie-Sima 2025
conference.
But that's not all: there will be also the pre-conference. On June 12th, the day before the official
start of the conference, PhD students and research fellows will have the opportunity to discuss
their publication projects with national and international researchers at the Paper Development
Workshop (PDW). The social activities organised at the end of the conference, in collaboration
with SIMA's NEXTGen, will be an opportunity to establish connections between the researchers
of tomorrow from Italian universities. Additionally, on 12 June, the Thematic Group
Coordinators' and SIMA Local Correspondents' meetings will be held to share the work of the
past year and to plan future activities.
