SIMA-SIM School of Research Methods

The year 2025 has begun with the great success that has epitomized the SIMA-SIM-BAM School of Research Methods Winter Edition – Academic Writing 2025organized in Pisa at the Le Benedettine premises of the University of Pisa from 22 to 25 January 2025, which saw the participation of 30 PhD students coming from various universities and business schools. The winter edition of the School addressed, with the intervention of an important roster of internationally renowned professors, a gamut of issues related toAcademic Writing from how to write an introduction (Gerardo Patriotta, U. of Bath), a theoretical background (Carmelo Cennamo, Copenhagen Business School), distinguishing between articles of qualitative essence (Stephanie Decker, U. of Birmingham) and quantitative nature (Giuseppe Pedeliento, U. of Bergamo), methods and results (Daniela Andreini, U. of Bergamo) and discussion of the results.Tips and Insights on Academic Research and ProfessionAn important moment of impressive significance was featured by the round table composed of Maria Colurcio (Board Member SIMA), Elisa Giuliani (Editor of Research Policy) and Alessandro Zattoni (President of EURAM), who discussed relevant topics related to the issueBoard Member SIMA), Elisa Giuliani (Editor di Research PolicyWe are grateful to our local organizer Daniele Dalli (President of SIM, and local host), Giulia Tardelli (U. of Pisa) and Virginia Vannucci (U. of Firenze) for their invaluable support in organizing the School in Pisa
February 2025 will witness the second edition of the series of webinars labeled as Processo di Referaggio dei lavori accademicidedicated mainly to youngsters at their very initial stages in academia. Organized in tandem with SIMA NextGen, this school segment will be focused on how to write a review of a scientific article, starting from the ways of how to conduct the editorial process (Claudio Giachetti), and then distinguishing between conceptual and review papers (Massimo Picone) and quantitative ones (Annamaria Tuan and Marco Visintin). The success of last year’s edition of this free-of-charge event for SIMA-SIM members, has clearly been featured by having over 60 participants in attendance.
What will be the School’s next activity? In the wake of the great enthusiasm of the 2024 summer school on methods, in July 2025we envision to have an ensuing edition of the SIMA-SIM-BAM School of Research Methods Summer Edition nel Luglio 2025, always in collaboration with British Academy of Management, that actually is in development. And please: never forget to “try to build a piece of your own cathedral…every day of your life”!!
