Supply chain management, logistics & operations

The tematic group of Supply Chain Management, Logistics & Operations aims to address emerging issues and challenges related to the supply chain, business logistics, and operations that companies face to remain competitive and create value.

These are some of the issues that intersect with cross-cutting challenges and with contextual factors that companies need to face in supply chain management, such as: sustainability and circular economy; enabling technologies and innovation; servitization and customer role.

The thematic group serves as a platform to facilitate discussion on consolidating these themes and defining a clear identity within the research group, while monitoring the evolution of topics of interest that are strongly emerging in this field.

The strategic management of procurement/purchasing and supplier relationships, with a global supply chain perspective
Supply chain resilience, agility, flexibility and reactivity strategies and reshoring strategies
The management of logistics activities and logistics services, including outsourcing
Operations, process management and production planning
The strategic choices of logistics distribution, emphasizing last mile delivery and omnichannel retail supply chain management
The management and configuration of after-sales and reverse logistics/returns management services
The role of the end customer in strategic reconfigurations of the supply chain
Risk management, mitigation and business continuity
The role of relationships for supply chain management.

ACTIVITIES

The thematic group organizes meetings, both in person and online, for exchange ideas and discussions with participants on ongoing activities and new initiatives. Furthermore, workshops and research seminars are organized on topics of interest, upon proposal of the coordinators and/or participants, also in collaboration with the homologous thematic group (OLSCM SIG) of BAM.

L'appuntamento annuale per tutti i partecipanti è il Workshop annuale del gruppo tematico in Supply Chain Management, Logistics & Operations, che è stato ospitato nel 2023 dal prof. Ivan Russo presso il Dipartimento di Management dell’Università di Verona, nel 2024 dalla prof.ssa Alessandra Cozzolino presso il Dipartimento di Management della Facoltà di Economia della Sapienza Università di Roma, e nel 2025 dal prof. Pietro De Giovanni presso la SDA Bocconi School of Management di Milano.
