INTRODUCTION

Many PhD courses or Schools offer courses in research methodology, without delving into the other dimensions of social research, epistemology, ontology, teleology and ethics. The results of the research are linked to a correct setting and choice of the most appropriate research strategies. COURSE OBJECTIVES

The goal of the "Designing Research" course is to deepen the concepts and tools necessary to properly design a research project, first of all respecting the epistemological and ontological principles of research. A further objective is to provide an overview of the main survey techniques and their field of application, in the context of social sciences. CONTENTS AND DURATION

The course is carried out in three days. The dimensions of social research will first be presented, with particular reference to epistemology, ontology and methodology. The analysis of the literature will then be introduced with an in-depth analysis of the construction of a systematic review. The design phases of an empirical research will then be analyzed: the identification of gaps in the literature, the positioning of the research; the definition of the methodology and method of data collection. Ample space will be dedicated to the presentation of the main methods of empirical research of a qualitative and quantitative nature, their characteristics and their limits. Subsequently, the presentation of the results, the discussion and the development of managerial and research implications will be examined. It will conclude by discussing ethics and publication strategy. EDUCATIONAL APPROACH

The course has a didactic approach strongly oriented to the application and contextualization of theoretical approaches. During the three days of the course, participants will be able to deepen and reflect on their research paths in order to highlight the different methodological opportunities in relation to the objectives pursued. Participants will be able to use the data and their doctoral / research project during the exercises.
