Description:
Based on the perspective of Open Innovation, innovation arises from knowledge flows both internal and external to the company, generated and distributed within the complex relationship that connects a wider range of strategic players. In this context, companies can be helped by open innovation platforms, recently defined as “knowledge and value enhancement” platforms in order to create a lasting value creation mechanism. The transition to a more digital arena implies a new way of sharing knowledge internally and beyond the boundaries of the organization. Since the sharing of knowledge through digital platforms involves increasingly frequent interactions, open innovation platforms need new skills, tools and management structures to integrate external knowledge into the organization. Based on these considerations, this special issue invites contributions that provide some valuable management implications for open innovation platforms and companies that use online communities to acquire and integrate knowledge from external sources.
