We hope you and your families are safe and in good shape. We open this new year with news regards SIMAs’international activities. Last December SIMA became a full member of the International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management (IFSAM) and shortly after our secretary, Arabella Mocciaro Li Destri, was elected as the IFSAM Secretary for 2021-2022. IFSAM is the global federation of academies in the field of management and aims to be the UN of management Academies. IFSAM includes members such as the U.S. Academy of Management (AOM) and Management Academies of Africa, Canada, China, the European nations (EURAM), the East Asian Nations (IFEAMA),,France, Japan, Laos, Nepal. Other Academies, such as the British Academy of Management, are currently in the process of renewing their membership. IFSAM’s mission is distinctive as it pursues the definition of global standards that advance business research, teaching and practice throughout the world, on the one hand, and the development of contextualized research, teaching and practice, so as to leverage the variety of intellectual traditions in each partner academy, on the other hand. This “glocal” nature of IFSAM is present also in the activities it carries out for the benefit of its member academies and their members, essentially creating connections between academies, links between scholars with similar interests and organizing conferences, webinars and position papers on themes of particular interest.

We are pleased to invite you to follow the first IFSAM webinar of 2021 regarding the evaluation of academic journals and the ranking of Business Schools following a survey launched by the FT. Though it is free it requires registration and there is a cap on how many people may participate.
|
|
Xavier Castañer, the President – Elect of IFSAM, is a long time friend of SIMAs and has greatly contributed to our partnership with EURAM (in which he is Vice-President). Today we are delighted to work with him in this new global context.
|

‘IFSAM Council and Executive Committee were delighted to reply positively to SIMA’s admission request as a full member last Fall, welcoming again an Italian member organization into IFSAM.
|
Since its admission in IFSAM last Fall, SIMA has contributed substantially to our activities.
|
We hope that this amazing commitment of SIMA leadership to IFSAM will continue for many years to come, in the manifold activities we are programming, such as in the near future the free webinars on management research evaluation (on Jan 29 and Feb 24, https://www.ifsam.org/blog/2020/12/22/webinar-on-jan-29-2021/ ) and IFSAM’s 16th world congress in 2022, which will be mostly online. I warmly invite SIMA members to check IFSAM website (IFSAM.org) for the details of these activities and other news.

The conference theme, Leveraging intersections in management theory and practice, calls attention to the many facets that researchers engaged in producing impactful research on the most challenging aspects firms and managers are tackling today are inevitably challenged by. Facets such as those that require the bridging of different disciplines, theories, methods, levels of analysis and research contributions a study may offer are key to contributing impactful research yet terribly difficult too. We call for conversations regarding the potential benefits and the pitfalls of leveraging intersections and suggest a number of possible phenomena such reasoning could prove fruitful for. In parallel, we also encourage to present all research in the established SIMA interest group tracks, as well as interesting case studies.

The PDW “Developing Qualitative and Quantitative Research” aims to provide young scholars specific guidance and developmental feedback in the submission (or re-submission) of their working papers for potential publication to an international top-ranking journal.
|
|
The PDW is articulated in two parts. In the first part, two distinguished scholars will reason about challenges and best-practices for publishing qualitative (Professor Davide Ravasi – UCL School of Management) and quantitative (Professor Giovanni Valentini – IESE Business school) research. In the second part, the selected papers will be allocated to specific roundtables for in-depth discussion. The roundtables are designed to provide authors with practical advice and feedback to help them in the process of paper advancement.

The target of the PDW are young and mid-career scholars who show robust interest for conceptual and empirical research in the field of management.
|

Ci auguriamo che voi e le vostre famiglie siate al sicuro e in buona salute. Apriamo questo nuovo anno con notizie riguardanti le attività internazionali di SIMA. Lo scorso dicembre SIMA è diventata membro a pieno titolo della International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management (IFSAM) e poco dopo la nostra segretaria, Arabella Mocciaro Li Destri, è stata eletta Segretaria IFSAM per il periodo 2021-2022. IFSAM è la federazione globale delle accademie nel campo della management e mira a essere l'ONU delle accademie di gestione. IFSAM include membri come la US Academy of Management (AOM) e Management Academies of Africa, Canada, Cina, le nazioni europee (EURAM), le nazioni dell'Asia orientale (IFEAMA), Francia, Giappone, Laos, Nepal. Altre accademie, come la British Academy of Management, stanno attualmente rinnovando la loro iscrizione. Il tema del convegno, “La valorizzazione delle intersezioni nella teoria e nella pratica manageriale”, richiama l’attenzione sulle numerose sfide alle quali le ricerche sui fenomeni che hanno maggior impatto sul mondo imprenditoriale e manageriale sono chiamate a rispondere. Tali sfide includono, ad esempio, la capacità di far leva su diverse discipline, teorie, metodi d’indagine, livelli di analisi e, in particolar modo, sulle intersezioni fra la teoria e la pratica manageriale. Nella call for papers del convegno, promuoviamo la submission di ricerche incentrate sui benefici e sulle insidie derivanti dalle intersezioni nella teoria e nella pratica manageriale, e suggeriamo una serie di fenomeni di studio sui quali tale riflessione potrebbe rivelarsi particolarmente fruttuosa. Vi invitiamo altresì a proporre studi attinenti ai molteplici temi di pertinenza dei gruppi di interesse SIMA, nonché casi di studio d’interesse.

L’obiettivo del PDW “Come sviluppare la ricerca qualitativa e quantitativa” è quello di fornire ai giovani ricercatori (dottorandi, dottori di ricerca, assegnisti, etc.) del nostro settore supporto specifico nel processo di sviluppo e di pubblicazione dei loro lavori di ricerca su prestigiose riviste di management.
|

Il PDW si compone di due parti. Una prima parte focalizzata sulle sfide connesse con la pubblicazione di ricerche qualitative e quantitative. Presenteranno la loro esperienza internazionale i proff. Davide Ravasi (UCL School of management) e Giovanni Valentini (IESE Business School). Nella seconda parte, si organizzeranno quattro tavole rotonde per discutere in profondità i diversi lavori selezionati. Le tavole rotonde sono concepite per fornire agli autori consigli utili e feedback costruttivi che favoriscano il processo di avanzamento dei loro lavori.
